Description
This limited magnum bottling of Bourgogne Côte d'Or is made by vinification intégrale, with the wine fermented and rolled in barrel rather than punched down.
An ouvrée is an old Burgundian measure describing the area of vines one person could work themselves, and the name suits a cuvée made in very small volume. Benjamin Leroux first produced this magnum in 2022 using vinification intégrale, a method in which fermentation takes place inside the barrel and the barrel is rolled to mix the cap, avoiding both punching down and pumping over. Pleased with the outcome, he has repeated the exercise, this time drawing on Vosne-Romanée fruit from his vineyard at La Croix Blanche. The regional Bourgogne Côte d'Or appellation covers declassified fruit from the Côte itself, and a wine of this provenance and handling sits well above what the label implies. The magnum format will also slow its development.
Approachable young and worth five to ten years in magnum. Serve at 16 to 18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart.
