Description

Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge is a regional wine built largely from named Côte de Beaune sites, with a fifth of the blend from village-level fruit.

Bourgogne Rouge is the broadest red appellation in Burgundy, so what matters is where the fruit comes from. Leroux draws on his key sources: Maison Dieu in Pommard, Mon Poulain in Volnay and Belles Côtes in Meursault. In 2020 these are joined by twenty per cent village wine from Saint-Romain and Monthelie, plus three barrels of Bourgogne from Vosne-Romanée, though in style it remains a Côte de Beaune wine through and through. Leroux has always said he wants his Bourgogne to exceed what the label implies, and the fruit intensity, structure and length here sit closer to village quality. The grapes were entirely de-stemmed and the wine matured in 2,200-litre Grenier oak casks supported by a few 228-litre Burgundian barriques, with next to no new wood.

Ready now and good for four or five years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or a simple beef ragù.
