Benjamin Leroux Côte de Nuits-Villages 2022

Benjamin Leroux Côte de Nuits-Villages is a fresh, low-alcohol red from a certified organic hillside vineyard at Comblanchien.

Côte de Nuits-Villages covers the villages at either end of the Côte de Nuits, and the southern pair, Comblanchien and Corgoloin, are drawing increasing attention as a source of serious reds at sensible prices. This wine comes from a hillside vineyard in Comblanchien farmed by a friend and former colleague of Leroux, and the site is certified organic. The village is best known for its limestone quarry, and Leroux jokes that the dust from it helps keep mildew off the berries. Benjamin Leroux runs a small house in Beaune, buying fruit and farming parcels across the Côte d'Or, and the wines are made with restraint rather than extraction. Bottled at 12.6 per cent alcohol, this is a distinctly fresh, red-fruited style of Burgundy that puts drinkability first.

Drink now and over the next five or six years, with roast chicken, charcuterie or a mushroom tart. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees.
