Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Clos de la Roche 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Benjamin Leroux Clos de la Roche is a grand cru red from 0.15 hectares of vines planted in 1965 on the northern slopes of Morey-Saint-Denis, in magnum.

Clos de la Roche is the largest of the Morey grand crus, and at its best, which depends heavily on the producer and the position within the appellation, it makes some of the most profound reds of the Côte d'Or. Leroux's parcel lies mid-slope on shallow, rocky soil with a high limestone content, a combination that gives both drive and depth. This wine is typical of the finer end of the appellation, with a deep, layered and dark-fruited character and the exotic spice and earthiness associated with Morey's northern slopes. There is considerably more structural muscle and mineral grip here than in the estate's Clos Saint-Denis. The fruit was entirely destemmed in this vintage, and the magnums are sealed with natural cork.

A wine to cellar for a decade and drink over the two that follow; serve at 16–18°C with roast beef, game or aged comté.
