Description
Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot Petit Maupertuis comes from a 0.15-hectare parcel of sixty-year-old vines on the Flagey-Echézeaux side of the Clos.
Clos de Vougeot runs to fifty hectares and more than eighty owners, and its reputation rests almost entirely on where within the walls the vines sit. The Petit Maupertuis lieu-dit lies on the Flagey-Echézeaux flank, just below Grands Echézeaux, on the better-drained upper ground; Domaine François Lamarche and members of the Gros family also hold vines here. Wines from this corner consistently show more finesse than the broader, heavier style the appellation as a whole is known for. Leroux's parcel is small, at 0.15 hectares of sixty-year-old vines. As in the previous vintage the wine was vinified with 80 per cent whole bunches and raised in a single new 456-litre barrel that had first been used to ferment white wine, which takes the edge off the new oak.
Give it five to ten years, then match it with roast venison, beef Wellington or aged Comté. Serve at 16 to 18°C.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
