Benjamin Leroux Meursault Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois comes from 1953 vines in the highest and rockiest Premier Cru of the commune.

La Pièce Sous Le Bois straddles the hamlet of Blagny, high above Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet; Chardonnay grown on the Meursault side carries the Meursault-Blagny name, while Pinot Noir from the same ground is sold as Blagny. Leroux owns two narrow strips here, and this cuvée comes from 0.44 hectares of Chardonnay planted in 1953. The vineyard is certified biodynamic and is perhaps his most extreme site: at 320 to 350 metres it endures bitterly cold winters, though it picks up plenty of sun through summer. Leroux describes the terroir as Saint-Aubin-like, and the wine follows suit, coming in fine, classical and mineral rather than broad.

Drink from two or three years and over the following decade; serve at 10-12°C with oysters, grilled whiting or a goat's cheese salad.
