Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Vireuils 2021

Benjamin Leroux Meursault Les Vireuils comes from 45-year-old vines in Vireuils Dessus, one of the highest and latest-ripening sites in the village.

Les Vireuils lies on the upper slope above the well-regarded Les Chevalières and Rougeots lieux-dits, on the western side of Meursault. It faces east, ripens late and sits on pure, rocky limestone and flint, which gives a wine with more cut and less obvious flesh than the classic Meursault mould. Broadly, this upper sector is among the best ground for village-level wine in the commune. Leroux has worked the same 0.45 hectares since 2002, initially making the wine at Domaine du Comte Armand before establishing his own cellars in 2007, so this is one of the longest-standing cuvées in the range and a favourite among followers of the domaine. Ageing took place in older 300-litre barrels. Sealed under Diam.

Drinking well from two years and holding for eight or more; serve at 10-12°C with pan-fried snapper, roast pork loin or a leek tart.
