Description
Benjamin Leroux Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Aux Boudots is drawn from a 0.3-hectare parcel of small-bunched Pinot Fin on the rocky upper slope.
Aux Boudots sits at the northern end of Nuits-Saint-Georges, directly adjoining the Vosne-Romanée boundary, and is often described as the most Vosne-like of the commune's Premier Crus. Leroux disagrees: although his parcel in Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts is a stone's throw away, he says the two behave completely differently in the cellar, and he regards Boudots as home to the true character of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Lalou Bize-Leroy, who farms over a hectare here, makes a similar point in Jasper Morris MW's Inside Burgundy. Leroux began working with the site in 2015. The thin, stony soils on the upper slope give particularly small bunches, which take a high proportion of whole bunches comfortably; this vintage was raised in a single 320-litre cigar-shaped barrel.
Give it four or five years, then drink over the following decade at 16-18°C with roast lamb, coq au vin or a dish of lentils and smoked sausage.
