Description
Aux Boudots is the northernmost premier cru of Nuits-Saint-Georges, sharing a boundary with Vosne-Romanée, and Benjamin Leroux has bottled it since 2015.
His 0.3-hectare parcel lies on rocky ground on the upper slope, where the Pinot Fin vines set unusually small bunches, which is why he can work with a high proportion of whole clusters here. Boudots is often described as the most Vosne-like of the Nuits premiers crus, though Leroux is not convinced: his Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts parcel is a short walk away, and he says the two behave quite differently in the cellar, regarding Boudots as showing the true character of Nuits-Saint-Georges. Lalou Bize-Leroy, who farms more than a hectare in the vineyard, has said much the same. The wine is fine and floral, with flesh through the middle and a powdery grip on the finish that places it firmly in Nuits.
Best from four to five years and good for twelve; serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, game birds or a firm washed-rind cheese.
