Description
Benjamin Leroux's Nuits-Saint-Georges blends village fruit with parcels from three Premiers Crus.
Nuits-Saint-Georges is the largest commune of the Côte de Nuits and its wines are usually described as sturdy and earthy, more structured than those of Vosne-Romanée to the north. This blend takes in the village lieu-dit Les Allots and the Premiers Crus Les Cailles, Aux Thorey and Les Boudots, though the bulk comes from Aux Herbues on the Vosne border and a parcel in the northern part of Fleurières just south of the town. Les Tuyaux, a stony terroir at the far northern end of the appellation, has recently joined the blend. The crop was entirely destemmed. Leroux's handling — careful sorting, measured new oak and gentle extraction — produces a village wine with more finesse than the commune's reputation implies, while the ferrous, earthy tannin of the terroir remains.
Drink from three to ten years; serve at 16–18°C with roast beef, game or hard cheese.
