Description
Benjamin Leroux Volnay is a village bottling assembled from vineyards abutting the Premier Cru belt, with a good measure of declassified 1er Cru fruit in the blend.
Volnay lies between Pommard and Meursault on the Côte de Beaune and is the reference point for lighter-framed, perfumed red Burgundy. This blend was drawn from La Gigotte and Le Famines, both of which sit below the village between Les Mitans and the D974, immediately below the Premier Cru slope. To that base Leroux added declassified Premier Cru fruit from his vines in La Gigotte, Mitans and Santenots, which lifts the wine well above the usual village standard. Only a small proportion of whole bunches was used, mainly from the Gigotte parcel, with the best-looking bunches picked out at the sorting table. Leroux, who spent years running Domaine du Comte Armand before establishing his own house in Beaune, has a long record in this commune.
Ready on release and good for five to eight years. Serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, charcuterie or grilled salmon.
