Description
Benjamin Leroux's village Vosne-Romanée is drawn from six separate lieux-dits across two hectares, almost all of it old Pinot Fin.
Vosne-Romanée is the most sought-after commune in the Côte de Nuits, and a village wine assembled from this many sites can cover a good deal of its range. Running north to south, the parcels are Maizières Basses, organically farmed with 60-year-old Pinot Fin; a slice of Les Violettes; a plot of old-vine Pinot Fin in Genaivrières that is new to the house, sitting just below Domaine Leroy's vines; and then Les Jacquines, Croix Blanche and Au-Dessus de la Rivière. Each was vinified separately. Whole bunches make up about a third of the ferment, drawn mainly from the northern parcels, and roughly 10% of the crop fermented directly in a 450-litre barrel that was rolled rather than punched down. New oak accounts for around 15%.
Approachable after two or three years and good for a decade; serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, mushroom dishes or a soft washed-rind cheese.
