Description
Camino de Navaherreros Blanco is Bernabeleva's entry-level white, grown on granite soils on the eastern flank of the Sierra de Gredos.
The Vinos de Madrid appellation runs from the edge of the city out towards Gredos, where sandy granite soils and altitude give wines fresher than the latitude suggests. Bernabeleva farms organically at San Martin de Valdeiglesias and first created the Camino de Navaherreros range as an introduction to the estate for its American importer; the Australian allocation followed after a long wait. The white leans heavily on the estate's old-vine Albillo, which brings textured, floral weight, balanced by the freshness of a field blend of Macabeo, Garnacha Blanca and Malvar. The grapes are softly pressed and ferment spontaneously across used oak barrels, large oak vats and stainless steel; the open vats take a portion of whole bunches and some skin maceration, and depending on the season some parcels go through malolactic conversion. The wine is bottled after nine months on lees.
Drink over the next two to three years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled vegetables, roast pork or a young sheep's cheese.
