Bernabeleva Madrid Camino de Navaherreros Garnacha 2021

Bernabeleva Madrid Camino de Navaherreros Garnacha is the estate’s entry-level Grenache from high-altitude granite in the Sierra de Gredos.

The Gredos mountains west of Madrid have become the reference for a lighter, perfumed style of Spanish Grenache, grown at altitude on decomposed granite rather than on the clays of the plains. Bernabeleva farms organically at San Martín de Valdeiglesias, and this cuvée draws on a range of estate plots supplemented by fruit bought from trusted growers in the same district, all rooted in granitic sands. The grapes undergo a twenty-five-day maceration including a portion of whole bunches, with fermentation split between stainless steel, concrete and large wooden vats. After blending, the wine was raised in upright old wooden vats and bottled without filtration. The result is a high-country Grenache built on juicy red fruit, sweet spice and a scrubby garrigue edge, with the freshness that altitude provides.

Ready now and good for four or five years; serve lightly cool at 15–16°C with grilled lamb, chorizo or a tomato-based pasta.
