Description
Bernard Faurie Hermitage Bessards, the red capsule bottling, comes from the purest granite soils in the domaine's holding within Les Bessards.
Les Bessards occupies the steep western end of the hill of Hermitage, where the granite is at its most exposed and the wines are the firmest and longest-lived of the appellation. Bernard Faurie is one of the last of the old-school Tain growers, working a handful of tiny parcels and distinguishing his cuvées by capsule colour rather than by label. This single-terroir bottling was first made in 2015 and comes from a plot near the eastern boundary of Les Greffieux, planted between the 1940s and the 1960s. Two 600-litre demi-muids, first used in 2012, were filled in this vintage, and the bottles were drawn by hand from one of those casks, so quantities are tiny and there is bottle-to-bottle variation of the kind that goes with hand bottling.
Best left for eight to ten years and good for twenty-five. Serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, peppered venison or slow-cooked lamb shoulder.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
