Bessin Tremblay Chablis Grand Cru Valmur 2021

Bessin Tremblay Chablis Grand Cru Valmur is drawn from two hectares in the grand cru, including the domaine's oldest vines, planted in 1947.

Valmur sits between Grenouilles and Les Clos on the grand cru hillside above Chablis, and the domaine's holding is unusually large for a single owner. With the 1934 plantings in La Pièce au Comte now replanted, Valmur carries the estate's oldest material, the 1947 vines, alongside parcels planted between 1962 and 1974 and again between 1995 and 2000. Just as important is the exposure: this parcel lies on the southern side of Valmur so the vines face north-west, which brings structure and freshness and balances the natural power of the terroir. The wine is raised mainly in stainless steel with between 20 and 40 per cent in barrel depending on the season. Yields here were just 25 hl/ha, giving pure, textured fruit with real tension, some grip and considerable length.

Worth three to five years and good for a decade; serve at 10–12°C with oysters, roast bream or a fresh goat's cheese.
