Description
Bessin-Tremblay Chablis Grand Cru Valmur comes from two hectares in the Envers de Valmur, the cooler northwest-facing side of the grand cru.
Valmur sits in the middle of the grand cru hill on the right bank of the Serein, between Grenouilles and Les Clos, on Kimmeridgian marl. The domaine's holding of two hectares makes it one of the larger owners of the climat and includes the estate's oldest vines, planted in 1947, alongside parcels from the 1960s and 1970s and later plantings from 1995 to 2000. The parcel lies on the southern edge of the cru in a climat called Envers de Valmur, where the vines face northwest; the cooler aspect brings structure and freshness that balance the natural power of this terroir. Between 20% and 40% of the wine is raised in barrel depending on the year, with the remainder in tank, so the oak stays in the background.
Reward for five to fifteen years in the cellar; serve with turbot, roast chicken or aged comté at 10-12°C.
