Ca' d'Gal Barbera d'Asti 2021

Ca' d'Gal Barbera d'Asti comes from half a hectare of 50-year-old vines at Cassinasco, made by a producer far better known for Moscato.

Sandro Boido works from Santo Stefano Belbo in the Moscato heartland of Asti, and his white wines are benchmarks in their appellations; this Barbera is a small sideline made with the same care. The parcel lies about ten kilometres from the winery on a south-facing hillside with limestone-rich soils, an aspect that ripens the fruit fully while the low yields from old vines give a juicy, concentrated mouthfeel. The grapes are entirely destemmed and spend fifteen days on skins, then the wine is assembled in stainless steel tank for twelve months, with no oak, so the fruit and the variety's characteristic acidity stay clear.

Drinking well now and over five years. Serve at 16-18°C with salami, agnolotti del plin or the Piedmontese bollito misto.
