Ca' d'Gal Moscato d'Asti Lumine 2018

Lumine is Ca' d'Gal's entry-level Moscato d'Asti, a lightly sparkling, low-alcohol sweet white made from the estate's younger Moscato Bianco vines.

Moscato d'Asti is a wine of arrested fermentation: the must is chilled and held in pressure tanks under the Martinotti method, and fermentation is stopped while natural grape sugar remains and only a gentle sparkle has built, which is why the alcohol sits around five and a half per cent. Ca' d'Gal is a small estate at Santo Stefano Belbo in the Langhe, in the heart of the best Moscato country, with about six hectares of Moscato Bianco at roughly 400 metres on steep marl and limestone slopes veined with lenses of blue clay. Alessandro Boido was the guiding hand behind the estate for the vintages that made its name. Lumine draws on vines of twenty to forty-five years at more generous yields than the Sant'Ilario and Vigna Vecchia bottlings, and is made cold throughout to hold the grape's floral, grapey aromatics.

Drink as young as possible. Serve well chilled at 8°C with peaches and cream, panettone, or on its own after a long lunch.
