Description
Ca' d'Gal Moscato d'Asti Lumine is a lightly sparkling, low-alcohol Moscato from organically managed vines above Santo Stefano Belbo.
Moscato d'Asti is made in the hills between Asti and Cuneo in Piedmont, where Moscato Bianco, properly Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, is fermented only partway and stopped under pressure, so the wine keeps gentle fizz, low alcohol and some natural grape sugar. Santo Stefano Belbo is the heart of the zone, and the amphitheatre of sandy, chalky slopes circling Sandro Boido's winery is among its most prized ground: the steep, chalky sites temper the variety's heady character with freshness, mineral energy and perfume. Boido's vines here are hand tended, organically managed and average around 30 years of age. Lumine, whose name means to illuminate, is the entry bottling of the range, but it is made with the same attention as the single-vineyard wines and is consistently precise, pulpy and mouth-watering.
Drink young, within a year or two, with fruit tarts, panettone or a bowl of stone fruit. Serve well chilled at 8-10°C.
