Description

This Ploussard comes from vines planted in 1961 in Côte de Feule, the vineyard Pupillin treats as its de facto grand cru.

Côte de Feule lies in the heart of the Arbois Pupillin appellation on a south-facing slope at 390 metres. The site was once a stone quarry, and Benjamin Benoit farms 0.4 hectares of old-vine Ploussard rooted in steep, iris-coloured Triassic soils littered with limestone gravel. From vines this age it is the most immediately inviting and approachable of his wines from the variety. All his Ploussards are made from mostly hand-destemmed fruit, with only about 5% of the ripest stems retained; this cuvée fermented spontaneously in a large wooden tronconique cask and then aged for 12 months in tank. Poulsard is naturally pale and thin-skinned, so the wine's substance comes from vine age and site rather than from extraction or wood.

Drink now and over the next five years, lightly chilled at 14-15°C, with charcuterie, roast poultry or a mushroom tart.
