Description
Cep by Cep Anjou Rouge is a pure Cabernet Franc from organically tended vines in western Anjou, made as an unfussy vin de soif.
Anjou Rouge is Cabernet Franc country, and the western end of the appellation sits on gravel over shale, just across the river from Savennières. Those free-draining soils give a lighter, more aromatic style of the variety than the tuffeau of Saumur-Champigny further upstream. Thierry Germain, who farms biodynamically at Domaine des Roches Neuves, runs Cep by Cep as a small side label, and the intention here is plain: a fun, lively, no-nonsense red to be drunk young while it is vibrant and fresh. The fruit is hand-harvested from organically farmed vines, fully destemmed, then fermented and raised in stainless steel for just six months with no oak at all. No sulphur is added until bottling, which keeps the fruit direct and the texture light on its feet.
Drink now and over the next two years, lightly chilled at 14–16°C, with charcuterie, roast chicken or grilled vegetables.
