Description
Bérêche's Brut Réserve Vieilles Vignes is a barrel-fermented, unfiltered grower Champagne from three sectors of the region.
The blend is 35% Pinot Noir from the Montagne de Reims, specifically Ludes, Trépail and Ormes; 35% Chardonnay from sites across the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne; and 30% Meunier from Mareuil-le-Port in the Marne valley. Ludes and Trépail supply the tension that offsets the depth and texture of the Marne fruit and the reserve wines, which make up about 35% of the blend and come from the two years preceding the base vintage. Average vine age is forty years. The hand-harvested fruit ferments naturally in barrel and is aged in barrel and tank, then spends 36 months on lees in the Bérêche cellars at Ludes before being disgorged by hand with just under 6 g/L dosage. That level of attention is more usually reserved for prestige cuvées.
Drink now or hold several years; serve at about 8°C with oysters, roast chicken or aged hard cheese.
