Champagne Jacques Selosse La Côte Faron is a blanc de noirs from a south-facing Aÿ vineyard, made from a perpetual blend running since the plot was acquired in 1994.

Aÿ is the grand cru of the Vallée de la Marne most closely identified with Pinot Noir, and La Côte Faron, formerly bottled under the name Contraste, is now labelled for its lieu-dit. The site faces south, and the estate finds it gives a Pinot Noir marked by herbal and forest character with considerable depth. Unlike the vintage-based cuvées, this is drawn from a solera-style perpetual blend begun when the vineyard was bought, so each release carries a fraction of every year since. Winemaking is common to all six lieux-dits: fully ripe fruit from low-yielding vines, spontaneous fermentation and ageing in oak casks, long time on lees and a dosage kept to almost nothing. This bottling is based on 2017 and was disgorged in January 2024.

Drinking now and good for a decade or more. Serve at around 8°C with roast duck, game terrine or aged hard cheese.
