Description
Champagne Jacques Selosse Version Originale is a blanc de blancs drawn from three successive vintages grown on the higher, steeper slopes of Avize, Cramant and Oger.
The three villages are all grand crus of the Côte des Blancs, and Avize supplies the largest share. What sets this cuvée apart within the range is where the vines sit: the parcels are mainly on gradients above 15 per cent, where the soils carry less clay and the roots reach the chalk more directly. That shows as brightness and transparency rather than weight, and VO is generally the most open and legible of the estate's wines, though there is still no shortage of texture and generosity. It spends six or seven years on lees and receives a dosage of between zero and 1.3 g/L. Fermentation and ageing are in oak casks, as throughout the cellar. This bottling is based on 2017 and was disgorged in October 2023.
Approachable now and good for a decade. Serve at around 8°C with oysters, grilled prawns or a plate of sashimi.
