Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Les Longues Voyes Blanc de Noirs is a vintage Pinot Noir Champagne from a single hectare of biodynamic vines at Chamery.
The name means the long way, a reference both to the 25 kilometres between the Laherte cellars and the vineyard and to the wine's extended ageing: eighteen months in barrel and a further eighteen to twenty in bottle. The site lies in the Montagne de Reims and is owned by a friend of Aurélien Laherte's, with 35-year-old vines rooted in clay and silt over limestone. The wine was made from a single four-tonne press, fermented naturally and matured in old Clos des Épeneaux and Leroux barrels. Malolactic conversion was blocked, and dosage was 4 g/L. The estate now releases two vintage Blanc de Noirs alongside each other, Les Vignes d'Autrefois from Meunier on chalk and this one from Pinot Noir on limestone, and the contrast in structure between them is the point.
Drinking well now and holding for five years or more. Serve at about 8°C with roast poultry, smoked duck or a plate of hard cheese.
