Description
Champagne Laherte Frères Ultradition is the house's Meunier-led benchmark cuvée, built on the 2019 harvest.
The fruit is drawn from seven parcels across the Coteaux Sud d'Épernay and the Vallée de la Marne, namely Chavot, Mancy, Morangis, Le Breuil, Boursault, Moussy and Vaudancourt, with vines averaging thirty years of age. All of it is farmed both organically and biodynamically. The blend is 60 per cent Pinot Meunier, 30 per cent Chardonnay and 10 per cent Pinot Noir, with 40 per cent reserve wine from two earlier vintages and 60 per cent of the material aged in barrel. Aurélien Laherte ferments naturally across a range of vessels, including two fifty-hectolitre Rousseau tronconique casks, old barrels, foudre and concrete, and the wines always stay on lees. Malolactic fermentation is partially completed, around 60 to 70 per cent. This bottling, based on 2019 with reserve wines from 2018 and 2017, was disgorged in July 2022 with 4.5 grams per litre of dosage.
Drinking well now and holding four to six years. Serve at 8°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or salted almonds.
