Champagne Larmandier-Bernier 1er Cru Terre de Vertus Blanc de Blancs is a single-terroir, non-dosé Chardonnay from the mid-slope of Vertus.

Vertus sits at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, and Larmandier-Bernier has done more than any other house to establish its chalk as a serious terroir in its own right. Terre de Vertus is one of three single-terroir Blanc de Blancs the estate produces and comfortably the best known. It comes from a parcel on the chalky mid-slope of the village, traversing the premier cru lieux-dits of Les Barillers and Les Faucherets, sites that give intensely mineral wines with a chalky raciness recalling the best of Le Mesnil to the north. The base wine was fermented naturally, roughly 60 per cent in neutral barrique and 40 per cent in large wooden Stockinger casks. Malolactic fermentation began spontaneously without inoculation and the wine was left on its natural lees for nearly a year. After the second fermentation it aged on cork for another six years before disgorgement.

Drinking well now with the structure to hold a decade. Serve at 8-10°C with oysters, grilled crayfish or a plate of sashimi.
