Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Grand Cru Les Chemins d'Avize is a Blanc de Blancs from two tiny chalk parcels on the lower slopes of Avize.

Avize is one of the Grand Cru villages at the heart of the Côte des Blancs, and Larmandier-Bernier, based at Vertus, has farmed here since the cuvée debuted in 2009. The wine comes from Chemin de Plivot, planted in 1955, and Chemin de Flavigny, planted in 1960, both on the lower slope not far from the La Fosse vineyard worked by Agrapart and Selosse. Topsoil is minimal and the chalk is close to the surface; Arthur Larmandier has said that the vines initially struggled to establish in ground this hard and now give the estate some of its finest wines. Vinification follows the other single-terroir cuvées, though smaller neutral barrels are used given the modest volume. The wine spends a minimum of five years on lees and is disgorged by hand with 2 g/L dosage.

Racy and taut, it is drinking now and will hold for eight years or more; serve with oysters, scallops or sashimi at about 8°C.
