Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant 2011 Disg. Jun 2019

Vieille Vigne du Levant is Larmandier-Bernier's old-vine grand cru Blanc de Blancs from Cramant, renamed in 2015 from Vieille Vigne de Cramant to stop it being mistaken for a crémant.

The cuvée was created in 1988 and comes from Bourron du Levant, an east to south-east facing lieu-dit at Cramant that takes the morning sun, on the deep chalk that makes the village one of the great Chardonnay sites of the Côte des Blancs. The vines run from sixty to more than eighty-five years old. Larmandier-Bernier is directed by Pierre and Sophie Larmandier from Vertus, with their son Arthur, and farms sixteen hectares biodynamically, certified organic since 2003, ploughing the soils and working with massal-selection material. The wine ferments spontaneously and completes malolactic in Stockinger barrels and foudres, rests on natural lees without fining or filtration, then spends years on laths in the cellar before hand disgorgement with 2 g/l dosage. This bottle was disgorged in June 2019, so it will show a shade less development than later releases of the same wine.

Drinking well now and with years in hand; serve at about 8°C with oysters, roast turbot or a hard alpine cheese.
