Description

This is an earlier disgorgement of Larmandier-Bernier's Vieille Vigne du Levant, the estate's old-vine grand cru blanc de blancs from Cramant.

The wine was previously labelled Vieille Vigne de Cramant, and the name now refers to Bourron du Levant, the vineyard that supplies most of the fruit, with the balance from the neighbouring Le Fond du Bâteau. Both plots lie on the southeast-facing flank of the Butte de Saran, on the deep chalk that makes Cramant one of the great Chardonnay villages of the Côte des Blancs, and the vines are old. Winemaking follows the house pattern for single-terroir wines: natural fermentation and malolactic fermentation, ageing in large Stockinger casks, no fining or filtration, a long stay on lees in bottle and a very small dosage. Bottles disgorged earlier will show a touch more freshness and less developed character than later ones of the same cuvée.

Drinking well now and with years in hand; serve at about 8°C with oysters, roast turbot or a hard alpine cheese.
