Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs 6L NV Base 19 Disg. Nov 2021

Latitude is Larmandier-Bernier's blanc de blancs drawn from Chardonnay vineyards lying on roughly the same line of latitude on the southern side of Vertus, here in a six-litre bottle.

Vertus sits at the southern end of the Côte des Blancs, where the chalk carries a heavier covering of clay than in the grand crus to the north. The sites behind this cuvée all lie at about the same latitude on the southern side of the village, which gives the wine its name and also accounts for the breadth of texture that the extra clay tends to bring. In the cellar Pierre Larmandier works mostly with large-format casks, now almost all supplied by Stockinger in Austria. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations proceed naturally and the wine is not filtered. Bottles are matured for more than two years, disgorged by hand and dosed at extra brut level, in this case four grams per litre, at least six months before release.

Ready on release and a format that will hold and slowly gain for a decade. Serve at about 8°C with oysters, tempura prawns or a whole roast chicken for the table.
