Description
Champagne Larmandier-Bernier Latitude Blanc de Blancs is drawn entirely from Côte des Blancs Chardonnay on the southern side of Vertus.
Vertus is the southernmost of the significant Côte des Blancs villages, where the chalk carries more clay than it does further north. The vineyards behind this cuvée all lie at roughly the same latitude, hence the name, which also hints at the breadth of texture those clay-influenced sites tend to give. In the cellar Larmandier works mostly with large casks, almost all now sourced from Stockinger in Austria. Fermentation and malolactic conversion happen naturally, and there is no filtration. Latitude matures in bottle for more than two years before disgorgement, and dosage is kept at extra-brut level — 3 g/L in this case — added at least six months ahead of release. The blend is based on the 2022 harvest with 40% reserve wine drawn from a perpetual reserve begun in 2004.
Ready on release and good for five or six years. Serve at 8°C with oysters, tempura or a plate of hard cheese.
