Description
Champagne Leclerc Briant Brut Réserve is the house's non-vintage blend of all three Champagne varieties, grown on certified biodynamic vineyards in the Marne.
Leclerc Briant dates from 1872 and built its reputation under Pascal Leclerc-Briant, who turned the estate towards organic and then biodynamic farming decades before Champagne took either seriously. Since 2012 the house has been owned by Mark Nunnelly and Denise Dupré, with Hervé Jestin as chef de cave, and the shift has been one of continuity rather than reinvention: certified biodynamic viticulture, indigenous yeasts, minimal sulphur and low dosage. Brut Réserve draws on Pinot Noir, Meunier and Chardonnay, with a proportion of reserve wine from earlier harvests to give the blend depth and consistency. It is the clearest statement of what the house does, at the most approachable point in the range.
An apéritif Champagne first and foremost, served at around 8 to 10 degrees, and equally at home with oysters, fried whitebait or a plate of jamón.
