Champagne Leclerc Briant Château d’Avize Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru 2014

Champagne Leclerc Briant Château d'Avize Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru is an all Chardonnay Champagne from Avize, one of the Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs.

Avize sits in the middle of the Côte des Blancs, the run of south and east facing slopes south of Épernay where Chardonnay is planted almost to the exclusion of everything else. The soils are thin, with chalk close enough to the surface to hold water in dry years and drain in wet ones, and the village holds full Grand Cru rating. The cuvée takes its name from Château d'Avize, the property in the village that Leclerc Briant works with. The house itself is certified organic and biodynamic, works with indigenous yeasts and keeps dosage low, so a wine like this is left to speak for its site rather than for its sugar.

Serve at around 10 degrees, in a white wine glass, with oysters, sashimi, scallops or a young goat's cheese.
