Champagne Leclerc Briant Grand Blanc Millésime 2016

Champagne Leclerc Briant Grand Blanc Millésime is a vintage dated blanc de blancs, made entirely from Chardonnay by one of Champagne's biodynamic pioneers.

Vintage Champagne is only declared in years the house believes can carry a wine on its own, without the smoothing effect of reserve wines from earlier harvests, and it is a decision as much about conviction as about weather. Leclerc Briant, founded in 1872 and based in Épernay, has farmed organically and biodynamically far longer than most of its neighbours and holds certification for both. The winemaking follows the same logic: indigenous yeasts, careful handling, little added sulphur and a low dosage, so that the Chardonnay and the year are what remain. Long ageing on lees in the house's cellars gives the wine its texture before disgorgement.

Serve at around 10 degrees, ideally in a white wine glass, with shellfish, roast white fish or a simply dressed crab salad.
