Champagne Pascal Agrapart Vénus is a single-parcel grand cru blanc de blancs from a third of a hectare in Avize's La Fosse aux Pourceaux, ploughed by horse.

The parcel lies on the chalkiest part of the La Fosse slope near the village, in contrast to the more clay-rich soils behind the Avizoise cuvée. The vines were planted in 1959 and are therefore very old by Champagne standards, and the small holding means only tiny quantities are made each year. The wine is named after Vénus, the Boulonnais mare that first ploughed the vineyard, and the horse work remains part of how the site is farmed. Vénus is bottled without dosage, and this release has more depth, grip and phenolic power than the Avizoise while retaining finesse and mineral intensity. Pascal Agrapart's wines are consistently vibrant and drinkable whatever their concentration, and this is the most complete expression in the range.

Worth decanting when young and best treated as a white wine at the table; serve at 8°C with turbot, roast chicken or aged comté.
