Description
Charles Melton Cabernet Sauvignon is a single-variety Barossa Cabernet grown on the estate's Krondorf vineyard.
Charles Melton is a family winery on Krondorf Road in the Barossa Valley, founded in 1984 by Graeme 'Charlie' Melton and run with his wife Virginia. While the Barossa is best known for Shiraz and Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon has a long history in the valley and performs well on the slopes around Krondorf, just south of Tanunda, where the red-brown soils over clay retain moisture through the warm summers. The estate's Cabernet is made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon rather than a Bordeaux-style blend, giving the variety's firm tannin and dark fruit a clear expression. It is matured in oak barrels before bottling under screwcap, and has the concentration and structure to develop in bottle over many years.
A structured, full-bodied red that suits roast beef, lamb rack or hard cheeses; serve at around 17 to 18 degrees.
