Charles Melton DSC GSR Red 2022

Charles Melton DSC GSR Red is a Grenache and Shiraz blend with a small portion of co-fermented Riesling, from the Domaine Sophie Claire range.

Charles Melton is a family winery at Krondorf near Tanunda in the Barossa, founded by Graeme 'Charlie' Melton and known for Grenache-based wines and its much-loved Rose of Virginia. The Domaine Sophie Claire wines are a separate range built around fresher, more elevated sites. This red combines Grenache and Shiraz with around four percent Riesling, fermented together in the manner of the Côte Rôtie tradition of co-fermenting Syrah with a little white grape. Co-fermentation lifts the aromatics and helps stabilise colour while keeping the wine fresh. The fruit comes from Krondorf and the Eden Valley, and the wine is sealed under screwcap to preserve its bright, juicy character.

Supple, fresh and savoury, it is a versatile red for roast chicken, pork, pizza and charcuterie; serve slightly cool at around 15 to 16 degrees.
