Charles Melton La Belle Mère 2022

Charles Melton La Belle Mère is a Barossa red blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro with a small portion of Riesling in the mix.

Charles Melton is a family winery on Krondorf Road in the Barossa Valley, founded in 1984 by Graeme 'Charlie' Melton and run with his wife Virginia. La Belle Mère draws on fruit from the home vineyards at Krondorf together with sites at Lyndoch and Rowland Flat on the Barossa floor and from the cooler, higher Eden Valley. Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro are the classic Barossa trio, grown here on old dry-grown bush and trellised vines, and the inclusion of Riesling, an Eden Valley speciality, is an unusual touch that lifts the aromatics and freshens the palate of the blend. The wine is made in the estate's generous but polished house style and bottled under screwcap to preserve its fruit and freshness.

A supple, medium-bodied red to enjoy with roast lamb, charcuterie or grilled pork; serve at around 16 to 17 degrees.
