Chartogne-Taillet Cuvée Les Orizeaux 2020 Disg. Apr 2025

Chartogne-Taillet Cuvée Les Orizeaux is a single-vineyard Blanc de Noirs Champagne from a parcel of Pinot Noir planted at Merfy in 1970.

Along with Les Barres, Orizeaux is the best known of the vineyards Alexandre Chartogne bottles separately at Merfy, in the Massif de Saint-Thierry north-west of Reims. The parcel runs north to south and is considerably more calcareous than Les Barres, though the topsoils remain sandy; the roots push more than four metres down into the chalk. It was planted in 1970 and has been prized by Alexandre and by his father before him, since the wine draws on both the generosity of the sand and the mineral cut of the limestone bedrock below. As across the range, the parcel is vinified on its own with minimal handling, and the dosage is a low 2.5 g/L. This release is based on the 2020 harvest and was disgorged in April 2025.

Ready now and capable of five to ten years; serve with roast poultry, veal or a mushroom risotto at about 8°C.
