Description
Description
Château Bourgneuf is a Pomerol grown on the plateau at the heart of the appellation, a few hundred metres from its most famous neighbours.
Pomerol is the odd one out among the great communes of Bordeaux, a small appellation of barely eight hundred hectares with no classification, no grand houses in the Médoc sense, and a reputation built entirely on the quality of its ground. Bourgneuf sits on the clay and gravel of the plateau close to Trotanoy, and like almost all of its neighbours it is planted principally to Merlot with a supporting share of Cabernet Franc. The Vayron family has held the property for generations, and the wine is made in an unshowy, traditional manner and matured in oak barrel.
Decant an hour ahead and serve at around 17 degrees, with duck, beef or a dish of mushrooms; it repays a decade or more in the cellar.
