Château Capbern 2020

Château Capbern is a Saint-Estèphe made by the team behind one of the commune's best known classed growths.

The estate was for many years called Château Capbern Gasqueton, after the family that also owned Calon Ségur, and the two properties remain in the same hands and share a winemaking team, which gives Capbern resources well beyond those of most estates of its size. Its parcels lie on gravel and clay on the rises around the village of Saint-Estèphe. The appellation is the northernmost of the Médoc's four communal names and has heavier clay in its soils than its neighbours to the south, ground that holds water through dry summers and has long been associated with wines built to age. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend, with Merlot and a little Petit Verdot.

A sound match for roast beef, lamb or a winter casserole; decant young bottles, and a few years in the cellar will not go astray.
