Description
Château Cos Labory, 5ème G.C.C, 1855 is the fifth growth that shares the Cos hill in Saint-Estèphe with a far more famous neighbour.
Saint-Estèphe is the northernmost of the Médoc's four great communes, cooler than Pauillac and built on gravel over a heavier bed of clay, which is why its wines carry more flesh and firmer structure than those made further south. Cos Labory occupies part of the same gravel rise as Cos d'Estournel, a considerably smaller property that has kept a quieter profile among the classified growths and has long been regarded as one of the more reasonably priced entries in the 1855 list. The vineyard is planted mainly to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with a little Petit Verdot, and the wine is made in the traditional Médoc manner and matured in oak barrels.
It suits roast lamb, beef and hard cheese, and generally opens out after eight to ten years in bottle; serve at around 17 degrees.
