Château Coutet Opalie de Château Coutet Blanc 2022

Château Coutet Opalie de Château Coutet Blanc is the dry white wine made at Coutet, the Barsac first growth otherwise known for its sweet wines.

Sauternes and Barsac estates have made dry whites for generations, in small quantities and under separate labels, since the appellation rules there cover sweet wine alone and anything dry must be sold as Bordeaux Blanc. Opalie is Coutet's version, a recent addition to the range, blending Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon from selected parcels on the estate's limestone plateau. The fruit is picked earlier in the season, before botrytis cinerea has any chance to settle and while natural acidity is still high, and the wine is then fermented and matured in oak barrels. Production is very small, and the wine is made only in vintages the estate considers suitable.

It suits oysters, grilled fish and roast chicken, and is better served lightly chilled than ice cold.
