Description
Château d'Issan, 3ème G.C.C, 1855 is a Margaux third growth set around a moated château, one of the loveliest buildings in the Médoc.
The estate's motto, Regum Mensis Arisque Deorum, claims its wine for the tables of kings and the altars of the gods, and d'Issan has traded on a reputation reaching back several centuries. The present château, with its moat and corner towers, was built in the seventeenth century on an older fortified site. The vineyard lies on a gravel rise close to the Gironde in the commune of Cantenac, inside the Margaux appellation, planted to Cabernet Sauvignon with a substantial share of Merlot. The Cruse family, Bordeaux merchants of long standing, bought the property in 1945 and have run it since, and the wine is matured in French oak barrels.
It suits lamb, roast poultry and mushroom dishes, and generally shows best after eight to ten years in bottle.
