Description
Château de la Tour Clos Vougeot Hommage à Jean is a grand cru Burgundy made in tribute to the man who brought the estate its holding in the Clos de Vougeot.
The Clos de Vougeot was walled by the Cistercian monks of Cîteaux and remains the largest grand cru of the Côte de Nuits, divided today among roughly eighty proprietors. Château de la Tour is the biggest of them, with about five and a half hectares, and the only one whose winery stands inside the walls. The château that gives the estate its name was built at the end of the nineteenth century by Jean Morin, whose descendants, the Labet family, run the property still. Farming is organic and fermentation traditionally uses whole bunches. This is a rare bottling, made only in exceptional years and from the estate's oldest vines.
A wine for keeping, it will reward fifteen years or more, and is best decanted and served at around 16 degrees alongside game or a simple roast.
