Chateau de Sales Pomerol 2015

Chateau de Sales Pomerol is a Right Bank Bordeaux from the largest single property in its appellation.

Pomerol is a small plateau north east of Libourne with no classification of its own and no grand chateaux to speak of, yet it produces some of the most sought after Merlot in the world. Chateau de Sales sits at the north western edge of the appellation, on lighter, sandier and gravelly soils rather than the iron rich clay of the plateau's centre, and it covers a far larger area than its celebrated neighbours. The property has stayed within the same family line for centuries, an unusual continuity even by Bordeaux standards. Merlot leads the blend, supported by both Cabernets, and the wine is matured in oak barrel with a portion of new wood.

More approachable in its youth than many Pomerols, it suits roast duck, beef and mushroom dishes; serve at around 17 degrees.
