Château de Sales Pomerol 2022

Château de Sales Pomerol is the largest estate in Bordeaux's smallest great red wine appellation.

Pomerol has no classification, no grand château tradition and barely eight hundred hectares of vines, yet it produces some of the most sought after wines in Bordeaux. The plateau's clay and iron-rich subsoil suits Merlot, which makes up the bulk of nearly every blend, with Cabernet Franc in support. Château de Sales stands apart for its size, close to fifty hectares in an appellation where ten is considered substantial, and for the length of time it has stayed in one family's hands. Its vineyards lie towards the north west, on sand and gravel over clay, ground that gives an earlier-drinking style rather than the concentration found at the core of the plateau.

Serve at around 17 degrees with roast poultry, veal or a mushroom risotto; it drinks well at five years and keeps comfortably beyond ten.
