Description
Château Doisy-Védrines, Grand Cru Classé En 1855 is a classified sweet wine estate on the plateau of Barsac, the commune with its own appellation inside Sauternes.
The original Doisy property was eventually split three ways, and Védrines is the largest of the parts, classified a Deuxième Cru Classé in 1855. The Castéja family, whose name has been attached to the Bordeaux trade for generations, have owned it for many years. Its vines grow on limestone under a covering of sand and clay, planted to Sémillon with Sauvignon Blanc and a small proportion of Muscadelle. Where the cold Ciron meets the warmer Garonne the autumn air turns misty, botrytis cinerea takes hold, and pickers work through the vineyard in repeated passes; the wine is then fermented and matured in oak barrels.
It is a good match for foie gras, Roquefort or a fruit tart, and should be served well chilled.
