Description
Château Duhart-Milon, 4ème G.C.C, 1855 is a Pauillac fourth growth, run by the owners of Château Lafite Rothschild.
Duhart-Milon's vineyards lie on gravel slopes immediately west of Lafite, on the northern edge of Pauillac near the boundary with Saint-Estèphe. The name Duhart is said to belong to a privateer in the service of Louis XV who later kept a house on the quay at Pauillac. The estate had declined a long way by the middle of the twentieth century, and when Domaines Barons de Rothschild bought it in 1962 only a small part of the vineyard was in usable condition; it has been replanted and enlarged steadily ever since. Cabernet Sauvignon leads the blend with Merlot behind it, and the wine is aged in French oak barrels.
It suits roast lamb, beef and game birds, and usually needs eight to ten years before it opens out; serve at around 17 degrees.
